About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer to join Pulsar full-time. You’ll work closely with the founders and a high-caliber engineering team to build and operate cloud-native services that power our core SaaS platform. You’ll tackle meaningful challenges from day one, including large-scale data streaming, real-time analytics, distributed systems, and ML-driven pipelines, while following modern engineering standards around scalability, observability, testing, and security.
This is a high-impact role for someone who wants to help shape our backend architecture, elevate engineering practices, and influence how we scale the product and team.

Requirements

Hard Skills

Proficiency with a major cloud providers (AWS, GCP or Azure)
Expertise in at least one OOP language (Node.js/TypeScript a strong plus)
Familiarity with DevOps practices and end-to-end ownership of services
Demonstrated experience designing, building, and shipping scalable backend systems
(APIs, databases, data models, testing, observability)
Strong attention to detail and a disciplined engineering mindset

Startup Traits

Ability to operate in a fast-moving startup environment with context switching
Bias for action: comfortable shipping MVPs and iterating quickly
Comfortable wearing multiple hats and learning new stacks/tech as needed
Clear communicator, especially when explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

Experience with serverless architectures and MySQL
Experience with data streaming, distributed systems, or big data
Interest or background in AI/ML and building data-centric applications
